Trolltunga formed through a process that began more than 10,000 years ago, when the glaciers covering Hardanger started to retreat. The tongue hangs 700 meters above Lake Ringedalsvatnet — a product of erosion, frost, and time.
Until 1994, almost no one came here. There was no marked trail. Today, more than 80,000 people a year walk the 27-kilometer round trip. But the place itself is the same as it was when the ice let go.
